Introduction to Industrial Anion and Cation Mixed Bed Ion Exchangers

The industrial anion and cation mixed bed ion exchanger is a device developed based on the ion exchange process. The so-called mixed bed is to place a specified number of cation and anion exchange resins together in a exchange device, thereby achieving the functions of ion exchange and removal in the raw water.

Classification of industrial anion and cation mixed bed ion exchangers

Mixed-bed ion exchange devices can be classified into three types based on their regeneration forms: in vivo regeneration mixed-bed type, in vitro regeneration mixed-bed type, and anion resin transfer regeneration mixed-bed type.

1The external regeneration mixed bed type is more suitable for application in manufacturers with small water consumption and high requirements for wastewater discharge. However, due to the large number of related devices in the external regenerative mixed bed, the operation process is rather complicated and has gradually been phased out by people.

2The in-body regeneration mixed bed type is more suitable for manufacturers with large water consumption and dedicated wastewater treatment systems. In this type of regeneration mixed bed, both water production and regeneration processes take place inside the device, so the resin will not be removed from the device. Moreover, both anode and cathode resins are regenerated simultaneously, and the number of related supporting devices is small, making the operation relatively simple.

3The basic structure of the anion resin external transfer regeneration type mixed bed and the related supporting regeneration columns is mostly the same as that of the small countercurrent regeneration fixed bed. This type of mixed bed ion exchanger, like the previous one, is more suitable for application in manufacturers with large water consumption and the ability to independently treat wastewater.

Advantages of industrial anion and cation mixed bed ion exchangers

1Excellent effluent quality: Usually, strong acid and strong alkali type resins are used for bed filling, and the conductivity of the final produced water is at0.1~0.2g/LDuring this period, the pH value of the produced water is very close to neutral.

2The effluent quality remains stable: Even if there are temporary changes in the working environment, such as alterations in the influent quality or operating flow rate, it will not affect the effluent quality of the exchanger.

3A brief shutdown of the exchanger will not affect the quality of the final produced water. The time required to restore the water quality to that before the shutdown is relatively short, usually only3to5About a minute.

4The exchange endpoint is easy to control: Before the resin in the mixed-bed ion exchanger becomes saturated, the conductivity of the effluent water will change significantly, which is of great benefit to the replacement or cleaning of the resin.

Application of industrial anion and cation mixed bed ion exchangers

1, Pure water device

The mixed-bed ion exchanger is applied in pure water equipment. Cationic resins and anions are placed in different tanks and work separately. The cationic resin mainly removes cationic impurities in water. After the replacement is completed, it can neutralize hydroxide ions, thus achieving the desalination of raw water. In this case, hydrochloric acid is usually used in cation exchangersHCLRegenerate.

2, Water softening device

When industrial anion and cation mixed bed ion exchangers are applied in water softening devices, they are also called ion water softeners. They achieve the purpose of softening hard water by replacing calcium and magnesium ions in the water with resin ions, and are often used in boiler water softening devices.
