Inside the pot, at high temperatures, the water film on the heat transfer surface is heated and evaporates first, generating foam. The bubbles then detach from the heat transfer surface and turn into steam, escaping. Under normal operating conditions of the boiler, only a very small amount of salts are carried in the steam. Therefore, the salt concentration in the boiler water increases as steam is continuously produced and escapes. The salt concentration in the boiler water near the water-cooled wall tubes is relatively large, which is prone to precipitate and deposit on the water-cooled wall tubes due to heating. The insoluble substances in the boiling water will also exceed their solubility at the corresponding temperature and become supersaturated in the water. When these supersaturated substances encounter impurity particles, they will adhere to them and continuously grow, or form tiny crystal nuclei themselves and accumulate and grow on the nuclei, forming scale or water sludge. During the operation of boilers, problems caused by poor water quality do not immediately become obvious as problems with certain components of the boiler. The harm of poor water quality to boilers is often an accumulative process and may not be discovered until after a certain period of time. By then, it may have reached an irreparable situation.

Controlling the hardness of feed water is a fundamental requirement in the operation of boilers. When there is hardness in the boiler feed water, it indicates that there isCa2+,Mg2+Exists. The presence of these ions can cause scaling, corrosion, slag accumulation and other hazards in the boiler body. At this time, the operation of the boiler is extremely dangerous and uneconomical. Generally, soft water is required as the feed water for steam boilers, which is also an important measure to control scaling inside the boiler.

Dissolved oxygen is one of the main factors causing corrosion of water supply equipment and the boiler body, especially inside the boiler, where dissolved oxygen corrodes high-temperature components such as smoke tubes very quickly. The greater the evaporation capacity of the boiler, the smaller the unit water volume, and the more dissolved oxygen the metal surface comes into contact with within the same period of time. Therefore, it is stipulated that the rated evaporation capacity of the boiler should be greater than or equal to6T/HWhen it is necessary to deaerate, the rated evaporation capacity should be less than6T/HWhen local corrosion is found in the boiler, deaeration measures should be taken. The oxygen content of the boiler feed water supplying steam for the steam turbine should be less than or equal to0.05mg/L. In addition, the level of dissolved oxygen in the boiler feed water has a significant impact on the degree of corrosion in the feed water system. To prevent and reduce oxygen corrosion, it is necessary to lower the dissolved oxygen content in the feed water as much as possible.
